    When L and S are pointing in the opposite direction, the value of J becomes minimal, meaning 0.

    When L and S are parallel, we have the same orientation and thus following from this the contribution to the energy is highest.

    When L and S are perpendicular, we have the J vector pointing along the vector with the most upward or downward direction.
