    I think that:
    * J = max (here = 2) if L and S are parallel and pointing in the same direction
    * J = min (here = 0) if L and S are parallel and pointing in the opposite directions
    * J is an intermediate value (here = 1) if L and S are perpendicular to each other

    edit: I forgot to mention the vector sum similarity, which is what I based my reasoning on
