    For the equation for electric field gradient tensor we can see that the matrix elements V_xx and V_yy are both -1 and thus the term eta = V_xx – V_yy = 0. If eta is 0 there is axial symmetry.
    If we turn our attention the the visual inspection of the toy model we can note that the electric field gradient tensor is the part of the electric quadrupole interaction that only depends on the electrons. Seeing how the electrons in this toy model are both present on the z-axis, it makes sense for this toy model to have an axial symmetry.
