First you would place the sample in a position where it can be radiated by a microwave laser inside a magnetic field. Next, the magnetic field would be varied, to find the resonant condition and determine the g-factor. Subsequently, the direction of the magnetic field could be changed by using 6 magnetic coils or the sample could simple be rotated around an axis. The procedure would then be repeated over. This can also be done for different axis.
