Imagine you are sitting in the middle of a sphere that represents the nucleus. The 1s electron will be moving around that sphere. Averaging the positions of the electron over time will give you a certain value for the distance of the electron to you. The electron will spent a certain amount of time on the sphere with that radius. During the time you look at the electron, it will also be further away and closer by for some amount of time.
