    You are in a big room and there is an annoying fly that is flying around. Sometimes it lands somewhere far away from you (on the wall) and sometimes it lands on you. Every time the fly lands somewhere you write down its distance from you. If you take the average of all of these recorded distances you would get the equivalent of the time-averaged position of the electron relative to the hydrogen nucleus.
