Imagine a proton on a fixed point in space. An electron is rotating around the nucleus, with the exception that the electron can be anywhere you want. Nevertheless, there are some places the electron will be very often, and some places where it will never come. If you would track the distance of the electron to the nucleus over time and average those, you would get the time average. You would find a specific value, namely the Bohr radius.
