    Practical problems would be things like air resistance which could be solved by performing the experiment in vacuum (which is a general good idea since you don’t want air molecules to absorb photons).
    Another problem could be the need for acceleration. This can be solved by using a rotary source or a source on a conveyor belt. A new problem here would be the stress in the material due to the centrifugal force as well as the fact that you can not be sure of the moment the photon was emitted. A more common approach is to have a vibrating source.
