apply a static magnetic field with a certain orientation to a sample, and irradiate it with photons of a fixed energy. Next, increase (and typically modulate) the magnetic field strength to measure the absorption, peaks of which correspond to a resonance condition. From the field strength, the photon energy and the orbital quantum numbers of the site you’re studying, you can determine the g-factor for this particular orientation. Repeat for many different angles and plot the g-curves as a function of two angles.
