    The center of the carousel represents the nucleus. The child holding the charged ball represents an electron orbiting the nucleus. The bar magnet (which the child holds) represents the magnetic field generated by the electrons which can be measured with the magnetometer. If we would place the bar magnet outside of the carousel, we can illustrate the magnetic field caused by neighboring atoms as well.
