    When a free La-atom in an external magnetic field absorbs a microwave photon that satisfies the EPR resonance condition, then the atom will be excited or decaying to the level underneath/above (following the transition rules). In the EPR spectrum, we will see two peaks if I = 1/2, because the atoms has two possibilities to do the transition.
    (Is this correct? Or is more explanation needed?)
