upper left index: 2 = 2S + 1 => S = ½, D => L = 2, lowest state J = 3/2, energy level 0.0 eV

g = 0.8

• the highest level in the 2D multiplet of the free La atom (see video)

upper left index: 2 = 2S + 1 => S = ½, D => L = 2, lowest state J = 5/2, energy level 0.1 eV

g = 1.2

• the ground state of the la atom when it is inside lanthanum metal,

In the metallic environment the atom will have higher energy than in the 0.0 eV case, the video gives information that J then equals 3/2

2 = 2S + 1 => S = ½, D => L = 2, energy level 1.0 eV

g = 0.8
