    For the ground state of Lanthanum in a metal, we use J=3/2. This beckons that L = 2 and so we find S= -1/2. The result should be, according to the online calculator 0.8.

    The same can be done for the lowest state in the 2D multiplet of La, which is also .8

    Last we can calculate the Landé g-factor for the highest state of the multiplet, being J=5/2, L=2 and S=+1/2. The result is 1.2
