    1) lowest level in the 2D multiplet of free La atom (video)
    From the level scheme in the video we see that this level is the 2D 3/2 state. This means S=1/2, L=2 and J=3/2. If we put this in the formula we find: g_J = 0.8

    2) highest level in the 2D multiplet of the free La atom (video)
    From the level scheme in the video we see that this level is the 2D 5/2 state. This means S=1/2, L=2 and J=5/2. If we put this in the formula we find: g_J = 1.2

    3) ground state of the La atom when it is inside lanthanum metal
    Now we do not have a free La atom, so we cannot calculate g_J as above, as the LS formalism doesn’t work now. I cannot find any way to calculate g_J in this case (other than doing actual measurements).
