    We can see J as the quantum number along the axis of quantization, kind off like m_z for the electron.
    J=2 means parallel spins, which means that the angular momenta or spins add up to each other.
    J=0 is antiparallel, because the spins cancel each other out.
    J=1 is perpendicular, one spin is along the axis of quantization and the other one isn’t.
