Hyperfine splitting becomes larger for larger hyperfine fields. The picture shows clearly more distinct excitation levels denoting the heavier splitting. We can thus say that at 50K that the field is smaller.
Going from 50K to 18K the broadening at each level becomes smaller. This can be visualised by imagining that the particles vibrate less upon reaching higher excitation levels, due to this the differences between internal levels becomes more clear and the levels become distinct. This is what the splitting is.
