    1) The nucleus is in it’s lowest energy state when it’s oriented parallel to the hyperfine field and in it’s highest energy state when antiparallel to the hyperfine field. From this field, we can thus derive the orientation of the nucleus within the hyperfinefield, but also the direction of this field.
    2) Low temperature means the lowest energy state is mostly occupied. The spins would be mostly oriented upwards in this situation, meaning we get an upside-down peer-like configuration.
