    The difference between the quantum system and the classical toy model is that the dumbbell can make any angle with xy-plane, while in the quantum system, there are only some possible orientations. So i guess if we would consider a nucleus with a very large nuclear spin and thus a lot of m-values (these correspond to orientations relative to the electron cloud) this would be the best way to see some similarities between the 2 models.
