    See slide 12, p2 of the “in solids” slides. We wanted to determine whether or not some contributions to the hyperfine field will be there or not, since some vanish if there is symmetry. We are given sketches of cubical symmetry in the solid on slide 12, but what are the green and blue dots? Are these different atoms in the solid? I’m confused as to why the symmetry of the solid would determine whether or not there is a hyperfine field at the nucleus of a certain atom. I would think this would largely depend on the wavefunction of the electron cloud of the atom, but I don’t see how neighbouring atoms could cancel those fields, since their electron clouds are further away than the electron cloud of the given atom. Also, what are the arrows denoting in slide 13: are these sketches of the magnetic dipole vectors of the nuclei?
