The peak corresponds to the rf frequency where orientation is destroyed and we have isotropy. This resonance frequency is the energy difference between the hyperfine levels. The external applied field is used to orient the atomic magnetic moment of the iron atoms. From the experiment we see that for larger external field the resonance frequency becomes smaller which means the energy difference between the hyperfinelevels becomes smaller. So the hyperfinefield is opposite to the external field.
