     1) Due to the lowest energy state being the +1 state we know that the outer shell is at least half filled with electrons.
    2) At cold temperatures the electrons are distributed over the states with a preference towards the lower states. This means that there are more spin vectors antiparallel to the z-axis and thus we will get an upside down pear.
