In all cases, the energy does not depend on the azimuthal orientation phi. In the case of alpha>0, the energy will be lowest if theta=0°, while in the case of alpha<0, the energy will be lowest if theta=90°. In the case of alpha=0, the energy does not depend on theta, and any angle will result in the lowest energy.
