    1. Which information about the nucleus ánd which information about the hyperfine interaction can you infer, when given the picture above?

    The nucleus has spin 1 (also on the picture) because the energy level splits in 3 distinct energy levels due to the magnetic hyperfine splitting. From the difference in energy, you can find the strength of the hyperfine structure constant a, which depends on mu_N, I, J and B.

    2. Describe the orientation of a nuclear ensemble in the conditions given in the picture above, at low temperature.

    At low T, most nuclei will be in the low energy state which corresponds to the spin pointing upwards in the z-direction. This means our ensemble will be shaped like a pear, but upside down.
