    In the quantum case for I = 1, the nucleus can only have 3 possible orientations while the classical system (dumb-bell) can have all possible orientations between parallel and anti-parallel. In general we have 2I + 1 possible orientations so if we take I very large we can have many possible orientations that are very close to each other, at some point this will be almost indistinguishable from the classical system.
