    From the equation of the EFG tensor we can already see, that since it is a PAS, the off diagonal terms are zero. Now, since there is axial symmetry, one should be able to perform a rotation around the symmtery axis, without changing the system in question. But performing such a rotation does not seem to result in a tensor with off diagonal terms. Thus I am not sure how to ‘see’ this from the equation.
    From the picture, one can take the axis along the dumbbell and can easily perform a rotation around this axis without changing the system.

    From reading other responses I noticed that I overlooked the fact that one can check eta to see how the system deviates from axial symmetry.
