    J=2 this is the maximal possible value for J, so L and S need to be maximally aligned, which means they need to parallel and pointing in the same direction.
    J=0 This is the minimal possible value for J since L=S, and thus they need to be maximally antialigned, which means they need to be parallel and pointing in the opposite direction.
    This leaves us with the perpendicular option for J=1.
