    This question is a bit weird to me. If you don’t expand your fields into multipole terms, what is then your pertubative expansion of the interaction hamiltonian? If you use the whole EM interaction with the general nucleus as your perturbation to the free hamiltonian then you are actually solving the problem exactly. The field is then way to complicted to find a solution.
