Listen up, juvenile. I am in the very center of the nucleus of an atom that has only one proton and electron – hydrogen. I will now tell you where the electron is in such an atom. I open and close my eyes as fast as I can, each time I see an electron in a different place, sometimes I see it very far away, it happens very rarely, most often I observe it right next to my nose. Basically, I don’t know where I will find an electron the next time I open my eyes, but I can tell you what the chance is that I will see an electron at a given distance. The chance of observing an electron is greatest in the center of the nucleus and decreases very quickly for increasingly larger distances from the nucleus. At distances approaching nm it is close to 0
